Project Room: come, turn, go, fly

Selva de Carvalho 10.03-10.31.2026

In the installation “vem, vira, vai, voo” [“come, turn, go, fly”], Selva de Carvalho explores different possibilities of bodily formation through the same combination of elements and the shifting of their formal, symbolic, and spatial functions and meanings.

Different bodies emerge from the same materials: wooden hangers and fabric. Suspended in space, they evoke organisms, entities, or traces of something in continuous transformation. Movement also unfolds in the background, where the stretcher frames function alternately as wells and portals. The shadows, drawn like a kind of stamp, simultaneously displace and duplicate these beings. Stones and feathers introduce different temporalities and symbolic qualities to each of them. The title suggests a progression through approach, metamorphosis, release, and flight, with each word naming an organism and guiding its meaning and presence. Unlike the others, “fly” takes the form of a mask, inviting viewers to experience, if only for a moment, another body. Together, the elements suggest an existence in transition, in which body, shadow, and matter continuously reorganize themselves between weight and suspension, interior and exterior, what arrives, what remains, what departs, and what takes flight.
